Two killed and several injured in Lucknow firecracker factory blast as CM Yogi takes cognisance

A major blast in a firecracker factory in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, left two people dead and several others injured on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place in the Gudamba area and caused heavy damage to nearby houses, creating panic in the locality. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to provide speedy relief and medical help to the victims.

Blast damages houses and traps people under debris

According to police officials, the explosion occurred around 12 noon in Behta area of Gudamba. The firecracker factory was being run inside a house, and the sudden blast brought down a part of the roof. This caused several people to get trapped under the rubble.

Rescue teams, including fire brigade staff, police, and ambulances, quickly reached the spot. They managed to pull out five trapped people from under the debris and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, two individuals were declared dead due to the impact of the blast.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anindya Vikram Singh confirmed that the explosion took place in a house that was being used as a firecracker manufacturing unit. “Two people have been killed in the incident, and some others have been injured. Rescue work is still going on at the site,” he said.

The blast was so powerful that at least four nearby houses were also damaged. Windows, walls, and roofs of these houses cracked or collapsed, leaving many residents shaken. People living in the locality rushed out of their homes in fear, while others joined in to help rescue those trapped inside.

District Magistrate (DM) Vishak G, along with senior police officers, reached the site to oversee the rescue and relief work. The DM said that while three of the injured were stable, the condition of two others was critical. “Our first priority is to ensure that the injured are provided with proper medical care. Once that is done, an investigation into the cause of the blast will follow,” he added.

Local residents expressed anger that such dangerous activity was taking place in a residential area. Many said they had no idea that firecrackers were being made inside the house. The explosion has once again raised questions about illegal factories and lack of safety checks in densely populated areas.

CM Yogi orders relief and investigation

Soon after news of the blast, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the situation. He extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the recovery of the injured.

The Chief Minister directed the district administration to immediately reach the spot and speed up relief efforts. He also ordered that the injured be given the best possible treatment at hospitals without delay. He stressed that no negligence should be shown in ensuring medical care for the victims.

“Officials must ensure all necessary arrangements for the injured and extend every possible help to their families,” the CM said. He also instructed the administration to investigate the cause of the blast and find out who was responsible for running the firecracker unit inside the house. Strict action is expected against those found guilty.

Police sources have indicated that the factory may have been operating without proper permission. If confirmed, this would make the incident a clear case of violation of safety rules. Authorities are likely to register cases against those involved once the rescue and relief work is completed.

For now, teams remain deployed at the site, clearing debris and inspecting the extent of damage. Residents of the damaged houses are being provided temporary shelter. Officials are also assessing the financial loss caused by the explosion.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of running firecracker factories in residential areas. Such units not only put workers at risk but also threaten the lives of families living nearby. Authorities are now under pressure to identify and shut down similar illegal setups across the city before another such disaster occurs.

As rescue work continues, the people of Gudamba remain shaken by the sudden and devastating blast. Families who lost their loved ones are in mourning, while others pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The state government has promised quick relief and strict action to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
